A train crashed into a tree in Rankin County Sunday night, resulting in the conductor suffering minor injuries. The incident occurred east of 204 Gulde Shiloh Road off Highway 80, between Brandon and Pelahatchie. The conductor was the only person on the train at the time of the collision and was taken to UMMC for treatment. Rankin County EOC Brian Grantham stated that crews are currently working to clear the tracks. The incident is believed to be weather-related, with strong winds causing the tree to fall onto the tracks.
This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that weather conditions can pose to transportation systems, and the importance of remaining vigilant and prepared for such circumstances. Thankfully, in this case, the injuries sustained were minor and the conductor is receiving appropriate medical care.
