Republican Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi has announced special elections to fill the seats of two members of the Mississippi House of Representatives who passed away in 2024. The special election dates have been set for House Districts 23 and 82, as well as for other special elections in Chancery court districts and a Circuit court district.
Former Rep. Andy Stepp of Pontotoc, who passed away on Dec. 5, 2024, will have a special election for his seat on March 25. Stepp was a first-year lawmaker and a supporter of changing laws related to pharmacy benefit managers. Those interested in running for his seat must qualify by Feb. 3.
In House District 82, Rep. Charles Young Jr. of Meridian, who passed away in December, will also have a special election on March 25. Young was known for advocating for changing the state flag in 2020, which previously displayed a Confederate battle flag emblem. Candidates must qualify by Feb. 3 to run for his seat.
