Jackson, Miss. – Central Mississippi is bracing for bitter cold temperatures following severe weather. A First Alert Weather Day has been issued due to frigid temperatures with highs only reaching the 30s. Wind gusts up to 20-25 mph will make it feel even colder, with wind chills in the 20s and low 30s. This will be the coldest day of the season so far.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s tonight, leading to freezing conditions tomorrow morning. Highs will only reach the 40s for the remainder of the week. Thursday may bring precipitation, either as a wintry mix or rain. With temperatures expected to stay above freezing, any wintry mix is unlikely to stick. Snow flurries are also unlikely but not impossible.
The area is on the line between cold rain and freezing rain, with a slight shift in temperature potentially changing the forecast. Updates will be provided as the situation evolves. For more WLBT news, subscribe to our newsletter.
