Senator Adam Schiff from California has expressed his opposition to the confirmation of Kash Patel as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the FBI. Schiff cited the recent New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans as an example of why it is important to have an FBI director with experience, judgment, and character. He accused Patel of prioritizing political vendettas and promoting conspiracy theories. Patel, a loyalist to Trump, has previously made controversial comments about going after journalists, lawyers, and judges who he believes have treated Trump unfairly. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has expressed a more positive view of Patel, stating that he believes Patel would prioritize the mission of the FBI and rebuilding trust in the institution if confirmed. Thune emphasized the need for reform within the FBI and expressed hope that Patel would take his responsibilities seriously if he were to be confirmed. Thune did not disclose whether he would support Patel’s confirmation in the full Senate vote, but emphasized the importance of ensuring a fair process for all nominees.
