Mississippi State ends South Carolina’s streak with dominating 85-50 victory in Starkville


The 17th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs dominated South Carolina in their SEC opener, holding them to 18 points in the first half in a convincing 85-50 win. Josh Hubbard scored 21 points and Claudell Harris added 17 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to their seventh straight victory. Riley Kugel and KeShawn Murphy also made significant contributions to the team’s success.

On the other side, South Carolina struggled with their shooting, only making 29% of their shots and going 2 for 19 from beyond the arc. Zachary Davis led the team in scoring with 22 points, while Collin Murray-Boyles was limited to just five points on 2-for-9 shooting. The Gamecocks also struggled with turnovers, committing 14 during the game.

Mississippi State’s strong defense and efficient shooting helped them secure the win, shooting 56% from the field and outrebounding South Carolina 40-32. This victory marks a successful SEC opener for coach Chris Jans and the Bulldogs, who are off to their best start under his leadership.

Mississippi State will face Vanderbilt in their SEC road opener, while South Carolina will play Alabama at home in their next game. Despite the loss, South Carolina will look to bounce back and continue their success in SEC play.
