Three individuals have been arrested in Arizona in connection with the death of a Good Samaritan, Paul Clifford, whose body was found near a burning car last month. The suspects, identified as Jack Upchurch, Elmer Smith, and a 16-year-old minor, were taken into custody after detectives received information about their possible location. The suspects barricaded themselves in a home but eventually surrendered after negotiations with the police.
Clifford had left his house late at night to help a stranger with a stranded vehicle when he disappeared, according to his daughter Sabrina Vining. The family reported him missing after a strange man knocked on Clifford’s door, asking for help with his car. The cause and manner of Clifford’s death have not been disclosed by the authorities.
The suspects were booked on felony charges and are being held on substantial bonds. Vining expressed gratitude for the hard work of law enforcement in solving her father’s case. The motive for the crime and the connection between the suspects and Clifford’s killing have not been revealed by the sheriff’s department. The case has shocked the community, and the arrests have brought some relief to Clifford’s family.
