Helping Victims of New Orleans Tragedy: Mississippi Blood Services makes a difference

A tragic mass casualty incident occurred in the New Orleans French Quarter during the annual New Year’s Eve celebration, leaving fifteen people dead and at least thirty-five injured. The Blood Center of New Orleans has requested assistance from the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC) to provide blood products for the victims, with Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) stepping in to supply critical blood units. Christopher Swafford, President and CEO of MBS, credited loyal donors for helping to quickly respond to the emergency and save lives. Mississippians are being called upon to donate blood at various MBS locations to support those in need during this challenging time. Walk-ins are welcome at the Flowood, Cleveland, and Oxford centers, with operational hours listed for January 2-4. Mississippi Blood Services and its donors are being hailed as heroes for their efforts to assist the victims of this devastating incident.
