Sheriff’s deputy in Mississippi arrested for drunkenly crashing patrol car during New Year’s Eve incident

Ronald Matthew Brown, a deputy with the Walthall County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi, was arrested for driving under the influence and crashing his patrol vehicle on New Year’s Eve. The 45-year-old law enforcement officer was involved in a single-vehicle crash near the Dexter community and charged with first-degree DUI and driving in more than one lane. Brown’s bond was set at $2,500 and he has since bonded out of jail.

In response to the incident, Brown has been placed on administrative leave while the Mississippi Highway Patrol conducts an investigation. The sheriff’s office has not released any further information on the incident or Brown’s future with the department.

This arrest serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence, even for law enforcement officers who are expected to uphold the law. It also highlights the importance of holding everyone accountable for their actions, regardless of their position or profession.

As the investigation unfolds, the Walthall County Sheriff’s Office will be looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash and whether any disciplinary action will be taken against Brown. In the meantime, the community is urged to continue to report any suspicious or illegal activity to law enforcement, as they work to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
