Visit Mississippi’s Parade Float was recently honored with the Past President’s Award at the 136th Rose Parade for its innovative use of floral and non-floral materials. The float showcased Mississippi’s rich cultural legacy as the birthplace of America’s music. Director of Visit Mississippi, Rochelle Hicks, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the global platform the Rose Parade provided to share Mississippi’s story.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves highlighted the state’s booming tourism industry, with over 43 million visitors last year, and extended an invitation to people worldwide to visit Mississippi. He emphasized the significance of 2025, the year marking what would have been B.B. King’s 100th birthday and Elvis Presley’s 90th birthday, as a special time to showcase Mississippi at the Rose Parade.
Chapel Hart and Brandon Bennett performed at the parade, with the Jackson State University Sonic Boom of the South leading the float along the parade route. Governor Reeves expressed pride in Mississippi’s economic growth and cultural significance, making it an ideal time to attract visitors to the state.
This milestone also marked Visit Mississippi’s first appearance at the Rose Parade. The recognition reaffirms Mississippi’s unique heritage and its contribution to the world of music. Governor Reeves’ message of welcoming tourists to explore Mississippi’s charm and cultural offerings resonates with the state’s commitment to showcasing its rich history and inviting visitors to experience all that Mississippi has to offer.
