America’s national bird officially declared as the bald eagle by Biden’s signature

After almost 250 years since the founding of the United States, the bald eagle has finally been recognized as the official national bird. President Joe Biden signed a bill into law making the bald eagle the official predator of the country. Previously, the Founding Fathers were unable to agree on a national seal, but eventually settled on an image of a bald eagle in 1782. Despite the seal prominently featuring a bald eagle, it was never formally recognized as the national bird. Minnesota resident Preston Cook took it upon himself to push for the bald eagle to be officially recognized after discovering the oversight. He wrote a simple piece of legislation that was eventually passed by Congress with unanimous support. Senator Amy Klobuchar led the bipartisan effort in Congress, culminating in the bald eagle’s inclusion as the official national bird in the U.S. code. Cook described the change as a correction in history and a way to make things right. The bald eagle, with its image as a symbol of strength and freedom, now holds its rightful place as the official national bird of the United States.
