A man drove into a Texas mall on Saturday, striking multiple people before being shot and killed by police. The incident occurred at the Killeen Mall in Killeen, Texas, where the man plowed into a JC Penney store and continued to drive his black pickup about 100 yards while hitting multiple people. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that police opened fire on the suspect, who is now deceased. Four people were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from severe to minor, while another person with minor injuries walked into a hospital. The injured individuals range in age from six to 75 years old. There were no reported deaths besides the suspect. Initially, there were reports of an active shooter at the mall, but authorities clarified that there was no active shooter situation. Police had been pursuing the man after receiving a report of a possibly intoxicated driver on the highway. The driver then entered the Killeen Mall parking lot and drove into the store. The Texas Rangers are investigating the police shooting. Members of the public were asked to avoid the area to allow first responders and investigators to work. Killeen is located approximately 67 miles north of Austin, and the mall boasts over 90 retailers.
