The Mississippi Veterans Affairs and Friends of Mississippi Veterans recently held their annual Wreaths Across America event at the Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Newton. Families and friends of fallen veterans gathered to honor and remember those who have served. This year, 3,392 wreaths were sponsored, exceeding their goal of 1,692 wreaths. Terry Tyler, Director of the cemetery, highlighted the growth of the event over the years and the significance of honoring those who served our country.
In addition to the Wreaths Across America event, there are local VA nursing homes throughout Mississippi that provide funds and support to veterans. The Mississippi VA Memorial Cemetery is open Monday through Friday for those who wish to stop by and show their appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans.
The ceremony included a wreath placement where sponsors, volunteers, and friends helped to decorate the graves of fallen heroes. This event provided families of the fallen veterans with an opportunity to spend time at their loved ones’ graves during the holiday season.
Overall, the Wreaths Across America event in Newton served as a touching tribute to the veterans and fallen heroes who have served our nation. It is a reminder of the importance of honoring and remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
