Religious billboards in town spread the message of Jesus and Mennonites’ beliefs

A series of religious billboards has been erected around Central Arkansas, with one group encouraging Arkansans to “Keep Christ in Christmas” and another posing questions about Christianity and politics. The billboards, organized by Little Rock resident Larry Witherspoon, are part of a campaign started last year by a men’s group at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cabot. While some may have questioned the choice of locations for these billboards, Witherspoon insists that it has nothing to do with politics.

In addition to the Christmas-themed billboards, a billboard in Little Rock asks “Christians and politics: What does Jesus say?” This was part of a larger effort by Christian Aid Ministries to spark conversation and engage with the community. John Martin from Christian Aid Ministries explained that Mennonites, like himself, do not participate in politics or the military, instead focusing on creating a society based on selflessness and empathy.

While Christian Aid Ministries holds conservative positions on topics such as gender identity and abortion, the phone conversation with Martin was described as more of a thoughtful discussion about religion and society. The organization places hundreds of billboards across the United States and Canada, with the goal of spreading Christianity and empowering Christian leaders in various communities.

The billboards, despite some controversy, seem to be sparking conversation and engagement within the community, highlighting the intersection of faith and modern-day issues.
