Liebherr, a global manufacturing company specializing in construction equipment, has broken ground on a new 1-million-square-foot distribution and manufacturing operation at the Lee County business park in Mississippi. The Swiss-headquartered company plans to invest $176 million in the county, creating 180 jobs initially with the potential for growth to 342 jobs in the future.
Governor Tate Reeves spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony, highlighting Liebherr’s decision to establish their operations in Mississippi as evidence of the state’s business-friendly climate. Liebherr’s investment is the first major project at The HIVE industrial park in Lee County, showcasing the area’s collaborative effort to attract business development.
Liebherr’s administrative board member, Philipp Liebherr, expressed excitement about the partnership with local businesses and officials. While this is Liebherr’s first venture in Mississippi, the company has a longstanding presence in the United States, with approximately 1,600 employees across various cities.
The county has invested in infrastructure improvements at the industrial park to accommodate the increased traffic and growth expected from Liebherr’s operation. Officials are optimistic about the economic impact of Liebherr’s investment and the job opportunities it will bring to the area.
Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed by 2026, marking a significant milestone for both Liebherr and the Lee County community. The establishment of Liebherr’s operations in Tupelo reflects the region’s strength, strategic location, and skilled workforce, positioning it as a key player in the state’s economic development landscape.
