Three new systems are now equipped with BC Transit’s NextRide real-time bus location technology

BC Transit has successfully deployed its automatic vehicle location technology, NextRide, on three regional transit systems, allowing riders to track their bus in real-time and predict arrival times. This technology also includes automated announcements of stop names for increased convenience and accessibility. Customers can access NextRide through various channels such as the Transit App, Google Maps, BC Transit website, and trip planning apps. The province-wide project, funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, costs C$16.8 million with contributions from the government of Canada, the province of British Columbia, and local government partners. BC Transit is offering free subscriptions to Transit Royale for real-time bus tracking and interactive features. However, there may be a delay in real-time data information on Google Maps. NextRide is part of BC Transit’s Smart Bus program, which aims to enhance the customer experience, increase ridership, and improve safety and accessibility through the use of new technologies. This initiative leverages recent technological advances to provide better information for customers and bus operators while delivering flexibility, scalability, and value to BC Transit and its local government partners.
