Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani was named MVP of the National League, while New York Yankees center fielder Aaron Judge was named MVP of the American League by MLB. Ohtani, in his first year with the Dodgers, hit .310 with 54 home runs and 130 RBI, leading the NL in home runs and RBIs. He also stole 59 bases, becoming the first player to have at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season. Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers in 2024 after playing for the Angels and professionally in Japan.
Despite not pitching due to Tommy John surgery, Ohtani played a key role in the Dodgers’ World Series run. Meanwhile, Aaron Judge, who previously won MVP in 2022, hit .322 with 58 home runs and 144 RBI for the Yankees. Judge led the AL in OPS, homers, and RBI, finishing third in batting average. He signed a nine-year, $360 million contract in 2022 with the Yankees and helped lead them to their first World Series appearance since 2009. The Yankees finished first in the AL with 94 wins in 2024.
