Ballet Mississippi Announces Annual Production of The Nutcracker Amid Venue Change
JACKSON, Miss. — Ballet Mississippi is set to enchant audiences with its annual performance of The Nutcracker on December 7-8, 2024, at the Fortenberry Theater on the Jackson Preparatory School campus. This year marks a special occasion as the non-profit celebrates its 60th anniversary in the state. Due to unforeseen circumstances at Jackson’s Thalia Mara Hall, the beloved ballet will take place at this new venue.
“We are excited to bring The Nutcracker to life at Fortenberry Theater this season,” stated David Keary, Artistic Director of Ballet Mississippi. “Though we have had to adjust our venue, the heart of this production remains the same—a celebration of the arts and the magic of the holiday season.”
The performances, which aim to benefit Ballet Mississippi’s mission of providing artistic experiences in the Jackson area and central Mississippi, will feature three showings: Saturday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m.
In addition to the performances, Ballet Mississippi will host the Sugarplum Fairy Tea Party on December 7 and 8, offering children a chance to meet the Sugarplum Fairy and other cast members while enjoying sweet treats and crafts. The tea party will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday in the school’s multi-purpose room.
Tickets for The Nutcracker and the Sugarplum Fairy Tea Party are now available for purchase on Ballet Mississippi’s website, www.ballet.ms. This year’s production is proudly sponsored by Jackson’s 16 WAPT as a media partner, promising a magical holiday experience for the community.
