The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) has announced the reclassification of its member institutions for the years 2025-2027. Many schools will see changes in their classifications for sports like football, basketball, baseball, fast-pitch softball, and volleyball. Notable changes in football include West Harrison moving up to 7A, Canton, Greenville, and Gautier moving up to 6A, and Clarksdale, Corinth, Gentry, and Yazoo City dropping to 4A. Presbyterian Christian School will also join the MHSAA in the 3A class.
In other sports like basketball, baseball, fast-pitch softball, and volleyball, the new regions will remain the same as for football. The MHSAA also announced new regions for soccer, track, and cross country. The reclassification will affect schools across Mississippi, with adjustments being made based on enrollment data. This reclassification is done every two years to ensure fair competition and balance in high school athletics.
With these changes, schools and athletes will need to adapt to new competition levels and opponents. The updated regions will bring new challenges and opportunities for schools to showcase their skills and compete at various levels. The MHSAA’s reclassification aims to promote a competitive and inclusive environment for high school sports in Mississippi.
