Vicksburg Star Softball Player Kyleigh Cooper Signs with Mississippi Delta Community College

Vicksburg, Miss. – St. Aloysius High School softball standout Kyleigh Cooper has officially signed a collegiate scholarship with Mississippi Delta Community College, marking a significant milestone in her athletic career. Cooper made the announcement on Monday, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to further her passion for softball at the collegiate level.

“I’m so thankful for this opportunity and I feel like it’s going to be a great new chapter because I’ve always dreamed of being a college athlete,” said Cooper.

During her senior season, Cooper posted an impressive .439 batting average, with 25 hits, 11 RBIs, and over 60 strikeouts as a pitcher. Her exceptional performance earned her the title of VDN’s 2022 Softball Player of the Year in her freshman year, along with recognition on the All-County Team throughout her high school career.

Cooper’s impact on the St. Aloysius softball program has been transformative. When she joined four years ago, the team was struggling, but under her leadership, they evolved from a winless squad into a playoff contender, reaching the playoffs twice in her tenure. She concluded her illustrious high school career with a remarkable total of 534 strikeouts.

In 2023, Cooper played a crucial role in securing St. Aloysius’s first playoff appearance in nearly a decade, which led to her initial scholarship offer from Mississippi Valley State University. Ultimately, she chose to join Mississippi Delta Community College, where she will play under Coach Tre Hobbs.

Cooper expressed her excitement about her visit to the campus, stating, “I felt right at home and I think they have a great coaching staff.” She also acknowledged the support of her family, coaches, and friends throughout her journey.

With career stats including 534 strikeouts and 101 hits, Cooper has established herself as one of the top players in Warren County, earning the Team MVP title every year and being named to the All-District team as early as eighth grade.
