Relatives of the Menendez brothers plan to hold rally outside L.A. courthouse while District Attorney considers resentencing.

Erik and Lyle Menendez, who were convicted of killing their parents almost three decades ago, may be resentenced and potentially released as the Los Angeles District Attorney reviews their case. The brothers and their extended family, including their defense lawyer Mark Geragos and celebrity advocate Rosie O’Donnell, will host a news conference outside the courthouse to discuss the situation. District Attorney George Gascón, who is considering their case, will not be attending the rally. The Menendez brothers’ conviction in the 1989 murders of their parents resulted in life imprisonment without parole.

The case garnered national attention due to claims of abuse suffered by the brothers at the hands of their father. Despite hung juries in a 1993 trial, the brothers were retried in 1995 without their abuse claims being admissible in court. The upcoming news conference will include family members of the victims as well as advocates like O’Donnell. Other celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian, have also spoken out in support of the brothers.

Gascón, who has a reformist platform, has indicated that his office is actively reviewing the case and considering potential resentencing. However, the ultimate decision will be made in the court of law. While public opinion may be in favor of the brothers, the legal process will ultimately determine their fate.
