Minnesota teacher claims victory with 2,471-pound pumpkin at California contest

Travis Gienger, a horticulture teacher from Minnesota, won the 51st World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California for the fourth year in a row with a 2,471-pound pumpkin. While this fell short of the world record he set last year, Gienger attributed the smaller size to tough weather conditions. He focused on healthy soil and well-fed plants to achieve his victory, despite a cold fall with record-breaking rain. Gienger and his family drove the massive gourd 35 hours to California, where it will be carved by professionals at a Halloween event in Southern California. He expressed pride in overcoming the challenging weather conditions to come out on top in the competition.
