A 46-year-old father and tour guide, Patrick Weier, died in a tragic elevator accident at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine in Colorado. The accident occurred around noon as the elevator was about 500 feet down a 1,000-foot deep shaft. Investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of the accident, but it is believed to be a mechanical issue rather than a medical episode. Weier had a 7-year-old son and lived in a small community in the area.
The elevator was on its descent when the accident occurred, and Weier was one of eleven people on board at the time. In total, 24 people were brought up from the mine after the incident. The mine has been closed until further notice, and officials are conducting investigations to determine what went wrong.
The governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, extended his condolences to Weier’s family, and the White House also reached out following the incident. Teller County Commissioner Dan Williams emphasized that this is a time for mourning, and the community is coming together to support those affected by the tragedy. The mine expressed its condolences to everyone involved and thanked first responders for their efforts. The investigation is ongoing to ensure the safety of all individuals involved in future operations at the mine.
