Kenzie Lewellen went into labor while Hurricane Milton was approaching the Gulf Coast. Her boyfriend, Dewey Bennett, was stressed due to his father’s death during Hurricane Irma in 2017. They decided to go to the hospital before the storm hit to avoid flooded roads. Despite facing challenges, they made it to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where Lewellen had to undergo a cesarean section due to the baby’s position. The procedure was difficult due to problems with the epidural, but Dewey Lester Bennett IV was born healthy at 11:45 p.m. ET. Seven babies were born at the hospital during the storm. Holding her newborn son was an indescribable feeling for Lewellen, and Bennett was overwhelmed with joy. Baby Dewey’s birth in the midst of a hurricane earned him the nickname “miracle baby.” Despite the challenges during his arrival, the couple was grateful for the medical staff’s support and dedication.
