Paul Pogba’s doping suspension has been reduced to 18 months from an initial four years by the court of arbitration for sport (Cas). The suspension will now start on September 11, 2023. The France international was suspended after testing positive for the banned substance DHEA, which raises testosterone levels, following a match in August 2023.
Pogba, who plays for Juventus, has denied any wrongdoing and stated that he would appeal to Cas. The doping test was conducted after Juventus’s season opening victory in Serie A against Udinese. The tribunal found prohibited “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites” in Pogba’s system, indicating an external source of the substance.
The reduction in Pogba’s suspension will allow him to return to competitive play sooner than originally expected. Despite the setback, Pogba remains determined to clear his name and resume his soccer career. Fans and teammates have expressed support for the player, reaffirming their belief in his innocence.
Pogba’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of adherence to anti-doping regulations in sports. Despite the challenges he has faced, Pogba remains optimistic about his future in the sport and looks forward to returning to the field once his suspension is complete.
