21 people injured in Kharkiv as Russian aircraft strikes apartment building

Russian airstrikes have hit high-rise apartment blocks in Ukraine’s Kharkiv, leaving dozens wounded in the second consecutive night-time attack this week. The bombs fell on the Shevchenkivsky district, destroying two residential buildings and damaging seven more. Among the 21 people wounded were an eight-year-old, two 17-year-olds, and several older adults.

These attacks come after another assault late on Friday that wounded 15 people, including children aged 10 and 12. Ukrainian officials have identified the use of KAB-type aerial glide bombs in both attacks, a Soviet weapon that has devastated eastern Ukraine for months. The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched 80 Shahed drones and two missiles at Ukraine overnight into Sunday, with 71 drones being shot down.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took to social media to report that Russia had launched 900 guided aerial bombs, 400 Shahed drones, and nearly 30 missiles of various types in the past week. He emphasized the need to strengthen their capabilities to better protect lives and ensure safety in the face of escalating attacks.

Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov and governor Oleh Syniehubov called for international support and aid in response to the attacks. The people of Ukraine continue to face the harsh reality of conflict as they strive to protect their communities and maintain their safety.
