Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons has provided new updates on the investigation into recent shootings targeting passing vehicles. Working alongside various agencies such as the U.S. Attorney Generals Office and Homeland Security, investigators have made significant progress in identifying the suspect responsible for the attacks.
Initially believed to be Jonathan Salvador from Mexico, fingerprint analysis revealed the true identity of the assailant to be Fredy Antonio Amaya-Marin, a 39-year-old El Salvadorian and confirmed member of the notorious MS-13 gang. Amaya-Marin, who had been deported in 2007, illegally re-entered the U.S. and now faces multiple charges including eight counts of attempted murder, along with federal charges for illegal re-entry and firearm possession.
Currently held without bond and in ICE custody for deportation, Amaya-Marin’s arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the case. Both local and federal agencies are continuing to collaborate on the investigation to ensure justice is served.
Chief Lyons commended the diligent efforts of law enforcement personnel involved in the case, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between different agencies in addressing such criminal acts. The Philadelphia community can rest assured that authorities are actively working towards resolving the situation and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
