After 914 days of war, the situation in Ukraine remains dire as Russia continues its aggressive attacks. On Tuesday, August 27th, at least seven people were killed and dozens injured as Russia targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with drones and missiles. Ukraine’s Air Force commander reported that they had successfully defended against most of the attacks. Poland also reported a possible drone entering its airspace during the bombardment.
United States President Joe Biden condemned the attacks and reiterated support for Ukraine. In a tragic incident, a Russian missile struck a building in Kryvyi Rih, killing one person and injuring four. A Reuters journalist was critically injured in another attack, while a safety adviser was killed.
In a concerning development, Russia said it had struck Ukrainian forces in several places, including a nuclear power plant in Kursk. The International Atomic Energy Agency announced plans to inspect the plant.
On the diplomatic front, Biden and Indian Prime Minister Modi discussed the conflict, with Modi expressing support for peace. A French citizen, Laurent Vinatier, will face trial in Russia for allegedly collecting military information unlawfully.
In response to the ongoing attacks, Ukraine revealed the development of a new long-range weapon, the Palianytsia, to strike deep into Russia. Meanwhile, Russia was the only member of the UN Security Council to skip a meeting on humanitarian law.
As the conflict escalates, the international community remains concerned about the impact on civilians and the need for a peaceful resolution.
