Israeli forces conducted a successful rescue operation in southern Gaza to free Bedouin man Qaid Farhan Alkadi, who had been held hostage for more than 10 months. The operation involved troops from Shayetet 13 and the 401st Brigade, but details of the operation were not disclosed for security reasons. Alkadi was reported to be in stable medical condition and was transferred to a hospital for further checks. His family has been updated on his status.
The rescue comes as more than 100 hostages are believed to still be in Hamas’ captivity following attacks in October. Previous rescue operations in June and November saw the release of dozens of hostages, but also resulted in casualties, including the mistaken shooting of three Israeli hostages by IDF troops in December. The situation remains fluid and ongoing updates are expected.
Chantal Da Silva, reporting for NBC News Digital from London, is covering the story. Paul Goldman also contributed to the report. The rescue operation highlights the ongoing conflict and hostage situation in Gaza, with both sides grappling for control and seeking to protect their forces and civilians. The successful rescue of Alkadi provides some hope for the release of other hostages and a resolution to the conflict.
