Woman from New Jersey charged after close call with tiger for climbing over zoo fence

A 24-year-old woman named Zyair J. Dennis from Millville, New Jersey, has been charged with defiant trespassing and violating city ordinances after allegedly climbing over fences at Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton. Police began investigating after receiving video and photos of Dennis approaching the tiger enclosure and attempting to reach into the cage. A similar incident also occurred at the bear enclosure on the same day. In the video, Dennis is seen climbing over the wooden fence to get closer to the tiger, but quickly pulls her hand back when the animal reacts aggressively. She then climbs back over the fence. Dennis is scheduled to appear in municipal court next month, and it is unclear if she has retained an attorney. This incident is reminiscent of a similar one at the Bronx Zoo in New York in 2019 when a woman climbed into the lion enclosure and stood near one of the lions.
