Donald Trump has expressed his preference to have the microphones on during an upcoming debate with Kamala Harris, despite his campaign team pushing for the same rules as the last debate with Joe Biden, where participants’ microphones were muted when it was not their turn to speak. Trump stated that he would rather have the microphones on, but the agreement was for them to be muted. Negotiations between the Trump and Harris campaigns over the debate rules have reportedly broken down, with Harris’s team insisting on leaving the microphones “hot” at all times.
Meanwhile, Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic Hawaii congresswoman and Iraq war veteran, is expected to formally endorse Donald Trump’s presidential bid at an event in Detroit, Michigan. Gabbard, who endorsed Trump at the National Guard Association’s conference, had been rumored as a potential vice-presidential pick for Trump and has been helping him prepare for the upcoming debate with Harris. However, Trump has threatened to pull out of the debate due to disagreements over the rules.
In response to the news, actor Billy Baldwin, a former friend of Robert F Kennedy Jr., condemned Kennedy for suspending his independent presidential campaign and endorsing Trump, calling it a betrayal of values and political cowardice. The backlash against Kennedy for his support of Trump has been widespread, with even family members like Kerry Kennedy distancing themselves from him. The upcoming debate between Trump and Harris on September 10th continues to be a point of contention between the two campaigns.
