Mississippi State running back Jeffery Pittman is currently not with the football team ahead of their season-opening game against Eastern Kentucky, according to head coach Jeff Lebby. Pittman, one of the team’s top returning running backs, is dealing with an “internal matter.” In his absence, Keyvone Lee or Davon Booth are listed as potential starters for Saturday’s game.
Additionally, cornerback Kelly Akharaiyi and defensive back Corey Ellington will also miss the upcoming game due to injuries sustained in fall camp. Akharaiyi, a key transfer this offseason, had an impressive season last year with over 1,000 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Coach Lebby expressed hope for a quick recovery for both injured players.
Without Akharaiyi, Mississippi State will look to New Mexico State transfer Trent Hudson, Louisville transfer Kevin Coleman, and junior Jordan Mosley to step up as starting receivers for the upcoming game.
This news comes as the team prepares for their season opener, facing challenges with key players missing due to various circumstances. Stay tuned for updates on the situation as the team continues to prepare for their first game of the season.
