Polish space science achieves historic milestone with successful launch of Eagleeye satellite

Poland’s space industry achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of the EagleEye satellite into Earth’s orbit. The project, which began in April 2020, was a collaborative effort between a consortium of industrial and scientific organizations led by Creotech Instruments S.A. The satellite, designed entirely in Poland, is set to deliver high-resolution images of the Earth for research and monitoring purposes. The mission, facilitated by SpaceX, took place at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

The EagleEye satellite is expected to orbit Earth at a low altitude, gradually descending from an initial height of approximately 500 kilometers to around 350 kilometers. The control center for the satellite is located at Creotech Instruments’ headquarters in Warsaw, with the mission expected to last at least one year.

Dr. BarciƄski, representing Creotech Instruments, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating that it marked an important milestone in the mission’s progress. While not all components of the satellite could be made locally, such as microprocessors, the satellite is equipped with high-range technology.

The successful launch of the EagleEye satellite represents a historic moment for Poland’s space industry, showcasing the country’s growing capabilities in space science and technology. The mission highlights Poland’s increasing presence and contribution to the global space sector, with the satellite poised to provide valuable data and imagery for various research and monitoring purposes.
