Deputy Brandon Cunningham of the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia was killed while responding to a domestic dispute on Saturday evening. Cunningham, a hero according to Sheriff Gary Gulledge, was struck and killed by gunfire from a suspect inside a home, who had ambushed the deputies upon their arrival. Cunningham, a 30-year-old with two children, had been with the sheriff’s office for two years and was described as a great deputy and a good young man. The female victim of the dispute also suffered gunshot wounds and was in stable condition in intensive care. The male suspect, who allegedly shot both Cunningham and the female victim, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This incident marks the first time the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office has lost a deputy in the line of duty. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will continue to investigate the tragedy. The sheriff’s office and the community are filled with sorrow and are asking for prayers for Cunningham’s family and for all those affected by the loss.
