Russia has accused Ukraine of using Western rockets, likely made in the United States, to target and destroy a strategic bridge over the Seym River in the Kursk region, killing volunteers trying to evacuate civilians. The destruction of the bridge is said to hinder the evacuation efforts. Ukrainian forces hit the bridge in the Glushkovsky district of Kursk as they advanced into western Russia. The Ukrainian incursion into Kursk comes after the US and NATO allies authorized Kyiv to use their weapons to attack targets inside Russia.
The Ukrainian military has launched a campaign in Kursk, capturing the Russian town of Sudzha and claiming control over multiple settlements in the region. Ukraine insists it does not aim to hold Russian territory and hopes the incursion will lead to fair negotiations with Russia. Moscow, on the other hand, claims to be repelling the Ukrainian offensive, shooting down rockets and drones and inflicting heavy losses on Kyiv’s forces.
Both sides are providing conflicting reports of the situation, making it difficult to independently verify facts on the ground. The tension between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, with the destruction of the bridge adding a new layer of complexity to the ongoing conflict. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, as the conflict shows no signs of abating.
