Day 8 of the Olympics featured a variety of exciting events, including track and field, gymnastics, women’s swimming, and women’s soccer. In track and field, Sha’Carri Richardson won silver in the women’s 100-meter finals, while Ryan Crouser won his third straight gold in the men’s shot put. In gymnastics, Simone Biles won gold in the vault final, and Team USA’s Jade Carey won bronze. In women’s swimming, Katie Ledecky won her fourth straight gold in the 800m freestyle, while Alex Walsh was disqualified in the women’s 200m individual medley. The U.S. women’s soccer team advanced to the semifinals after a 1-0 win over Japan.
Simone Biles’s victory in the vault final was a redemptive moment after withdrawing from the event in Tokyo in 2021. Katie Ledecky continued her dominance in the pool, holding off Ariarne Titmus for another gold. Meanwhile, the U.S. women’s soccer team secured a spot in the semifinals with a late goal by Trinity Rodman.
Looking ahead, the men’s 100-meter final, men’s table tennis final, and a tennis final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are scheduled. Additionally, the 4×100 medley relay finals for both women and men in the pool will take place, as well as events in women’s basketball, handball, boxing, and the men’s team foil final in fencing.
