Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning will be inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame along with seven other sports figures this weekend. Manning, a former Ole Miss All American, will be honored at the Clyde Muse Center on the Pearl campus of Hinds Community College. Other inductees include baseball broadcaster Red Barber, basketball coach Richard Duease, fisherman Paul Elias, NFL wide receiver Jimmy Smith, long jumper Savante Stringellow, tennis champion Becky Vest, and former NFL defensive lineman Jimmy Webb.

Barber, known for his broadcasting career with the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees, influenced future announcers like Vin Scully. Duease, who has coached 1,801 victories and 33 state championships, expressed his gratitude for the honor of being inducted. Elias, a Bassmasters Classic champion, credited the sport of fishing for allowing him to make a living doing what he loves. Manning, following in his father Archie’s footsteps, set records at Ole Miss and played 16 seasons with the New York Giants.

Smith, known as “Silk,” had a successful career with the Jacksonville Jaguars and considers his induction into the Hall of Fame as his greatest honor. Stringfellow, a former long jumper, expressed his appreciation for being part of Mississippi’s long jump tradition. Vest, a tennis champion, followed in her mother’s footsteps to become part of the Hall of Fame. Webb, a former NFL player and respected veterinarian, shared his gratitude for the honor.

The Hall of Fame weekend festivities include a Drawdown of Champions and a meet and greet with the inductees. Press article written by [Your Name], for more information, contact 601-982-8264.
