Caitlin Clark leads Fever to victory over Liberty with first triple-double in WNBA rookie history

Caitlin Clark made history by recording the first triple-double by a rookie in WNBA history, leading the Indiana Fever to an 83-78 victory over the New York Liberty. She finished with 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds, helping to end the Fever’s nine-game losing streak to the Liberty. Clark was narrowly close to achieving a triple-double in a previous game as well.

In a closely contested game, Indiana rallied in the fourth quarter with plays from Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell to secure the upset victory. Boston contributed 18 points and eight rebounds, while Mitchell added 14 points. NaLyssa Smith also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

On the other side, New York’s Sabrina Ionescu scored 22 points, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton contributed 20 points with four 3-pointers, and Breanna Stewart added 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Despite the efforts by the Liberty, they fell short in the final minutes as Indiana sealed the win with decisive plays.

The game saw shifts in momentum from both teams, with Indiana taking an early lead, then New York coming back in the second quarter. Ultimately, Indiana’s strong finish in the fourth quarter propelled them to victory. The win marked Indiana’s first victory over New York in several games, with the Fever now leading the all-time series 50-41.
