Mississippi man arrested for murder of girlfriend after kidnapping and beating her in Nashville

Mississippi man Bricen John Rivers has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Lauren Johansen, in Harrison County, Mississippi. Rivers was initially arrested in Nashville after allegedly kidnapping and assaulting Johansen while on vacation. He was found running from Johansen’s vehicle at a cemetery, where her body was discovered wrapped in a sheet. Johansen had been reported missing by her family in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Before the murder, Rivers had been held in Davidson County Jail in Tennessee on charges of kidnapping and interfering with an emergency call related to an incident in December 2023. Police had responded to a call from Johansen’s family expressing concern for her safety as she was with Rivers on vacation. When officers arrived, they found Johansen trying to escape from the vehicle, with Rivers allegedly reaching for a gun.

Rivers was released from custody in Nashville after posting bond, but has now been charged with murder in Mississippi and is being held on a $1 million bond. The case has shocked both communities and raised questions about domestic violence and the safety of individuals in abusive relationships.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed Rivers’ release and subsequent charges in Mississippi. The investigation into Johansen’s murder is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
