Simpson County, Mississippi is full of surprises, including the D’Lo Water Park. The park, situated on the Strong River near Mendenhall, offers a variety of activities such as camping, canoeing, playgrounds, and a walking trail. Pat Brown, a representative of the Simpson County Park Commission, mentioned plans to expand the park to include glamping sites and pickleball courts.

In Magee, the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex provides a venue for youth sports programs, with hundreds of kids participating annually. The town is also home to Zip’s CafĂ©, a family-owned restaurant that has been around since 1963 and was named Mississippi’s Best Burger of the Year in 2022.

Mendenhall, another town in Simpson County, hosts a popular event on the first Friday night of each month, where vintage cars line the streets. The town is preparing for the grand finale of the Simpson County Bicentennial Celebration, which will feature the opening of a time capsule buried back in 1974 during the county’s sesquicentennial celebration. Residents are eager to see what is inside the time capsule, with celebrations planned for the unveiling on July 4th.

The celebration will include music, food, and games for children, continuing the tradition of celebrating Simpson County’s heritage. A new time capsule will be buried later in the fall to preserve memories for future generations. Simpson County is rich in history and community events that showcase its unique character.
