Holcombe, who hails from Florence, Alabama, spent two years at Mississippi State after transferring from Northeast Mississippi Community College. In his time with the team, he primarily served as a reliever and made four starts, pitching a total of 57 2/3 innings.
During the past season, Holcombe made 12 appearances and helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Tournament. However, he struggled on the mound, finishing the season with a high earned run average of 10.38. Despite this, there is a possibility that Holcombe may return to the team or be drafted in the upcoming Major League Baseball selection process.
Holcombe is one of several players who have entered the transfer portal since the Bulldogs’ loss in the Charlottesville Regional final. The team has also welcomed new additions from the portal, adding infielders and a two-way player to the roster.
As Mississippi State prepares for the upcoming season under the leadership of coach Chris Lemonis, they are expected to continue recruiting new transfers and high school signees. The team will also participate in the Astros Foundation Classic at Minute Maid Park in 2025. The Bulldogs will face Rice in their opening game of the tournament.
