Labour leader Keir Starmer has dismissed claims by the Tories regarding his work ethic as “increasingly desperate stuff” and “bordering on hysterical”. He stated that he can hardly believe that, just 48 hours before the election, the Tories have nothing positive to say and are resorting to negative attacks. Starmer emphasized the importance of his family to him and criticized the Tories for their lack of a positive message.
Starmer also addressed concerns about postal ballots, stating that everything should be done to ensure people receive their ballot papers. He reiterated his commitment to implementing Labour’s first steps quickly after the election, focusing on tackling waiting lists and hiring more police officers. He acknowledged that challenges such as building new prisons cannot be resolved overnight but emphasized the need for change in the country.
Additionally, Starmer shared personal details, stating that he intends to continue playing football if he becomes Prime Minister and will still go to Arsenal matches. He also mentioned that his family is pressuring him to get a dog, with a German shepherd being the leading option.
In other election news, a poll suggests that the Green party is on course to win in Bristol Central, with an eight-point lead over Labour. Conservative candidate Miriam Cates has faced scrutiny for her involvement with a church that promoted conversion practices for homosexuality. Despite denying knowledge of these practices, Cates has come under fire for her association with the controversial teachings.
