Luke Cheng joins Ole Miss Baseball as a shortstop transfer

The Ole Miss Rebels have added shortstop Luke Cheng from Illinois State to their roster for the 2025 season, as reported by 247Sports. Cheng, who has yet to officially announce his commitment, joins RHP Will McCausland and catcher Collin Reuter as transfers to the Rebels this offseason. Despite injuries hampering his junior and senior campaigns, Cheng has a career batting average of .270 with 99 hits, 56 RBI, and one home run. Defensively, he boasts a .944 fielding percentage, an area of need for Ole Miss.

Cheng’s addition is a welcome boost for the Rebels, who have recently lost key players to the transfer portal, including third baseman Andrew Fischer. With head coach Mike Bianco returning for the 2025 season, Ole Miss hopes to make a return to the postseason after their national championship win in 2022. The team will be looking to strengthen their roster and improve upon their performance in the 2024 season, where they struggled defensively.

Cheng’s arrival adds depth and experience to the Rebels’ lineup, providing much-needed stability as they look to compete at a high level in the upcoming season. Ole Miss fans will be eager to see how Cheng and the rest of the team perform as they aim to build on their past successes and make a run for the postseason in 2025.
