The company behind former President Donald Trump’s new sneaker line, 45Footwear LLC, filed a lawsuit alleging trademark and copyright violations by individuals and business entities selling counterfeit shoes. The defendants, not named in the lawsuit, are largely located outside the U.S. and operate through commercial websites hosted domestically. The lawsuit seeks to prohibit the defendants from selling counterfeit sneakers and to pay damages for trademark law violations. Trump launched the Trump Sneakers line in February, offering high-tops, red laceless athletic shoes, and white laceless athletic shoes. They feature the letter “T” and were licensed to sell using Trump’s name, image, and likeness. The shoes have been promoted as a benefit for high-dollar donors. Attorneys for 45Footwear hired an online fraud investigator who identified counterfeit sneaker sellers before the authentic sneakers were even shipped.
