Arkansans for Limited Government is making a final push to gather the necessary petition signatures to get the Arkansas Abortion Amendment on the ballot in November. They announced on social media that they still need 8,200 signatures, down from the previous target of 10,000. The amendment would allow for abortions within 18 weeks of fertilization in various circumstances, including rape, incest, fatal fetal anomalies, and to protect a pregnant woman’s life or health.
With the July 5 deadline approaching, organizers are urging people to sign by Thursday to ensure that they have enough time to gather and submit the signatures. Various signing events and permanent signing locations are available throughout the state, including at the Arkansas Times office in downtown Little Rock.
In addition to the abortion amendment, volunteers will also be collecting signatures for proposed amendments and statutes related to medical marijuana, government transparency, public education, and taxes on menstrual products and diapers. The fate of these initiatives will depend on the support and participation of Arkansas residents.
As the clock ticks down, it remains to be seen whether Arkansans for Limited Government will reach their goal and successfully get the Arkansas Abortion Amendment on the ballot. The outcome of this effort could have a significant impact on reproductive rights in the state.
