New Arkansas laws set to take effect on July 1, 2024 cover a range of issues including increased state salary compensation, the creation of a statewide cyberattack insurance program, and new regulations for body art. Among the key laws going into effect is Act 172, which raises state employee salaries, including those in information technology and medical professions. The amendment also introduces special compensation awards for outstanding performance. Additionally, Act 846 establishes the Arkansas Cyber Response Program to help cities, counties, and school districts respond to cyberattacks by opting into a self-funded insurance program. The program will cover costs related to repairing hardware and software damaged by cyberattacks. The Arkansas Cyber Response Board will be responsible for defining covered cyberattacks and providing guidance in the event of an attack. Another law, Act 688, amends regulations for body artists in Arkansas, requiring instructors to complete safety and sanitation courses and raising the age requirement for permanent cosmetic artists to 21. The law also differentiates permanent cosmetic procedures from tattoos and raises the age limit for receiving such procedures from 13 to 18, unless for medical necessity with parental and medical consent. These new laws aim to address various issues affecting Arkansas residents and institutions and will come into effect on July 1, 2024.
