North Korea launches two missiles following completion of joint military exercises by U.S., South Korea and Japan

North Korea test-fired two ballistic missiles, with one potentially flying abnormally, following a new U.S. military drill in the region. The first missile flew 370 miles, while the second only reached 75 miles. The abnormal flight of the second missile may have resulted in debris falling on the ground. South Korea condemned the launches and reiterated its readiness to repel any provocations by North Korea along with the United States.

The recent trilateral drill, involving South Korea, the U.S., and Japan, aimed to enhance joint ballistic missile defense, anti-submarine warfare, and surveillance capabilities. North Korea strongly denounced this exercise, viewing it as a threat to regional peace and an attempt to encircle China and pressure Russia. Following the drill, North Korea vowed to defend its sovereignty and interests through offensive countermeasures.

These missile launches come after North Korea tested a multiwarhead missile last week, which it claimed was successful but South Korea disputed. Additionally, North Korea has engaged in balloon provocations towards South Korea and recently signed a defense pact with Russia, raising concerns about further provocations.

Meanwhile, North Korea is currently holding a key ruling party meeting to address issues related to enhancing Korean-style socialism. The meeting began on Friday and was reported to still be ongoing on Monday.
