Three children, including a 16-year-old girl, were rescued from the Mississippi River in Natchez, according to the Natchez Democrat. The incident occurred near Silver Street on Sunday, June 30. The 16-year-old, Jaila Tobias, attempted to rescue her younger brothers, Lakeithius Brashears, 7, and Lakeivion Brashears, 8, who fell into the river. Good Samaritans were able to rescue the two boys, but Tobias was carried about 250 yards out by the current.
Local authorities reported that Tobias was rescued by people in a boat and taken to a nearby hospital. The Natchez Police Department commended her bravery in attempting to save her brothers from drowning.
