Ole Miss track & field has announced the addition of Morrie Turner as its new sprints and hurdles coach for the 2024-25 school year. Turner, a Batesville, Mississippi native, brings a wealth of experience coaching collegiate sprints and hurdles, most recently at South Carolina in 2024. Head coach Connie Price-Smith expressed excitement about working with Turner, highlighting his experience, knowledge, and Mississippi roots as valuable additions to the program.

During his one season at South Carolina, Turner helped coach the women’s sprinters to success, including a national title in the women’s 4×400-meter relay. Prior to South Carolina, Turner had success at Alabama State, where he turned the Hornets into a SWAC powerhouse with multiple conference titles, NCAA qualifiers, and All-Americans. Turner also had coaching stints at Coffeyville Community College and Rogers State University, where he achieved success in developing sprinters and building strong track programs.

Turner’s coaching career includes multiple accolades, such as coaching NCAA champions, All-Americans, and conference champions. He has a proven track record of success at all levels of competition, from community college to Division I. Turner’s experience, dedication, and passion for track and field make him a valuable addition to the Ole Miss coaching staff.
